Run means a carving in Icelandic. As well as writing on skins from animals, the old poets of Iceland also carved on wood and stone, both poetry and sayings. When writing (carving) this musical work, the composer laid emphasis on texture and timbres. Thus the material of the work is the sound itself as it appears in the instruments of the orchestra. Run was composed in 1994 and premired by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra under the baton of En Shao in February 1996.
