Impromptu

for hand drums

Composed: 1987

Duration: 3'

Publisher: Iceland Music Information Centre

Was written in Sweden in 1979 at an inter-Nordic festival of young people, where the participating musicians were invited to compose a short piece to be performed at the end of the festival. Writing the piece for himself, Askell Masson premiered it at the last concert of the festival. He has since performed the work at a concert tour in China in 1987 and at the Reykjavik Arts Festival in June 1988.

This piece can be played on four congas or jembes or similar drums.

"...proved that no one but no one knows better how to handle the drums to effectiveness than Masson...."
