for tuba solo
Boreas is the north wind in Greek mythology. In Nordic mythology he was called Bor. He was the father of Odin the main god of the ancient heathen gods, Ásar and his brothers.
This solo is aapted from the tuba concerto Maes Howe and is mostly based on an Icelandic folk melody sung to many texts, amongst them Egill Skallagrimsson's "Pat maelti min módir" (from the Icelandic sagas).
Boreas was premiered by Harri Lidlse at the 1999 International Tuba Conference in Australia.
